for Sweden's largest pumping-over job

Eight new large pumps join IBECO's rental range. The units are ready for the major renovation projects awaiting Sweden's ageing water and wastewater system. This can involve treatment plants, large stormwater culverts, stormwater pipelines, sewer pipelines, large trunk mains and bypass pumping during renovation works at pumping stations. IBECO offers a complete solution including pumps, maintenance and monitoring.
– I'd say we can now handle 90–95 per cent of all bypass pumping carried out around Sweden, says Niklas Bergman, head of IBECO Rental.
Four diesel pumps and four electric pumps are included in IBECO's investment in large pumps. The diesel pumps have a capacity of 300–350 litres per second at 10 metres of back pressure, whilst the electric pumps handle 250 litres at the same back pressure. That is three times the flow IBECO's pumps have managed per unit until now. The pumps have been purchased from two of IBECO's suppliers: SPT from Germany and the Dutch family firm BBA.
– If we then use four of the new diesel pumps, we achieve a capacity of between 1100–1200 litres per second. That means we can handle the higher flows that may be needed as municipalities rebuild and renovate pipe networks from the 1950s–1980s, says Niklas Bergman.
IBECO Rental doesn't just hire out pumps but also offers customers a complete solution including installation, operation and monitoring.
– I'd say we can now handle 90-95 % of all bypass pumping carried out around Sweden. This is largely thanks to our existing pump fleet from our partner Selwood, combined with our new investment, says Niklas Bergman, head of IBECO Rental.
For longer assignments, where the large electric pumps in particular may be used, IBECO provides monitoring and backup pumps that secure the flow should a pump suffer a breakdown in the middle of the night.
– We often put the packages together after discussing flow requirements with the customer. If they need a capacity of 500 litres per second, we set up three pumps. That gives us two pumps handling the flow and one as a backup pump. The pumps then alternate every week or every day so that all three get the same running time, says Niklas Bergman.
More and more building contractors are aiming to electrify their sites and are installing large energy storage units to power their fleet of machinery. Using electric pumps brings environmental benefits, and IBECO has therefore begun shifting its pump fleet towards more electric power. Today, 30 per cent of IBECO's pumps are electric, whilst diesel-powered units account for 70 per cent of the range. Diesel-powered pumps still serve an important function as backup pumps, for example during power cuts, when flooding would otherwise be a risk.
– We're also in ongoing discussions with pump suppliers about hybrids and battery-powered pumps. That's something we'll be looking at in the future too. If you have a site that only needs pumping while staff are present, you could have an electric pump that's charged overnight and then run during the day, says Niklas Bergman.
IBECO's strength is that the company can offer the full range of rental products needed for a project. By representing manufacturers from around the world, we have a range with both breadth and depth. In addition, IBECO carries out complete installations and is on standby for daily operations. IBECO also looks after the equipment throughout the project.
By hiring equipment and machinery, customers can save money by avoiding the need to hold stock. And through access to IBECO's range, they always get the latest versions of the equipment they need. Rental also offers flexibility, which brings both financial and environmental benefits for project work. If, for example, a project runs for twelve months, one machine might be hired for eight months and another for perhaps two. To purchase relevant machinery and equipment, IBECO
regularly updates its product catalogue. This is often done in consultation with customers in the industry, who frequently ask for machinery that is better from an environmental point of view.
IBECO was founded by Fritz Berglund, commonly known as "Millimeter-Fritz". At the time, he held a master craftsman's certificate in the plumbing trade and began his career with specialist solutions in the water, wastewater and plumbing sector.
Eight years later, his son Torbjörn took over the business and shifted its focus towards the sale and rental of water, wastewater and plumbing materials. A few years later, IBECO was a nationwide distributor. The company then went through a further change of generation, but has always kept a high level of service and quality as its guiding principle.
In addition to pumps, IBECO offers a wide range of products for water, wastewater and infrastructure projects, including sheet piling cassettes, pipe plugs, hydrometers, pressure testing pumps, welding containers, electrofusion and butt fusion welding machines, tapping equipment and a comprehensive range of tools for PE pipes.
Our customers range from large national contracting firms and municipalities to the fire and rescue service and smaller operators in the industry. IBECO is today part of the Nordic Uniwater group, a leading player in water and wastewater infrastructure. Uniwater brings together specialist companies in three business areas: Treatment, Flow and Solutions. Together, we work to create sustainable and innovative water and wastewater solutions for the communities of the future.
At present, these pumps are available for rental only. Get in touch if you'd like to know more!
