Outside diameter and SDR
PE pipe is sized by outside diameter (e.g. 110, 160, 225 mm). SDR (Standard Dimension Ratio) is the ratio between outside diameter and wall thickness — a lower SDR means thicker walls and a higher pressure class.
Pressure class (PN)
The pressure class (PN) states the maximum permitted operating pressure at a given temperature and material grade. Choose PN based on the system's operating pressure, with margin for pressure surges.
Material grade
Common grades are PE80 and PE100. PE100 has higher strength, which gives thinner walls at the same pressure class and therefore a larger inside diameter and flow.
